Grandear was born in Luton, Iowa to Jonathan Smith Montgomery & Lydia "Letty" Henderson Montgomery. Her mother died in 1901 and she was raised by her grandmother, Isabel Bayne Montgomery, who was born in Vevay, Indiana & grandfather, Joseph S. Montgomery, who was born in Co. Antrim, Ireland. She met our grandfather, when they were both working at Armour & Co., in Sioux City. She was secretary to the general manager & always very proud of that. After their marriage on Oct. 9, 1920, she quit her secretarial position and concentrated on raising their three daughters, Jeane, Marianne and Joan. Grandear was a talented seamstress and told wonderful stories of her youth. We learned a lot from her.
