Denny, the eldest son of Hiram and Rebecca Anderson Bennett, an earnest Christian and a devoted member of the Abner Creek Baptist church, married Polly Wood in 1835, who died in 1842. They had three children:
- (1) Mary Ann (Fowler), born July 9th, 1836.
- (2) James W., born March 15th, 1839.
- (3) Sarah E., born 1842; died January 4th, 1862. Sarah is
said to have literally grieved herself to death over the absence of her devoted brother, James, the gallant Confederate soldier.

Denny Bennett died January 1st, 1863, leaving a widow, his second wife, Rosa Hunt (married in 1853), who died in 1887.
