Giles L. Mitchell
Giles L. Mitchell, rural Sumner, IL, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at the Lawrence Community Healthcare Center in Bridgeport, IL. He was 93.

Born on April 3, 1911, he was the son of Lee Mitchell and Mary Kathryn Brown Mitchell. He married Vallie Francis Wood Mitchell on January 21, 1933, and she died on November 2, 2001. He retired from Texaco Refinery after 32 years in the boiler room; was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 plus years; commandry of Masonic Lodge in Olney; active in Democratic politics.

Survivors include one son, Waymond G. Mitchell of St. Francisville; one daughter, Kathryn Berry of Sumner; one brother, Duane Mitchell of Trivoli; seven sisters, Hazel Couch, State of Washington, Cleo Smith of Olney, Opal Sprinkle of Mt. Carmel, Lorene Sanders of Lewiston, ID, John Ann Lanning of Bridgeport, Theda Leighty of St. Francisville, and LaJuana Hampton of Herrin; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Eldon Ray Mitchell, one brother, Donald Ray Mitchell, one sister, Inez McLaney and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 2, 2004, at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, IL.

Burial was in the Sumner City Cemetery.
