Cleo Smith, age 99 of Olney and formerly of Lawrence County, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 in Olney at Helia Healthcare. She was born September 5, 1916 in Arkansas to Granville “Lee” Mitchell and his wife Mary Ozella Katheryne (Brown) Mitchell.

She married Willard Smith in Henderson, KY on February 26, 1940. He preceded her in death in August 11, 1997.

Cleo was a devoted Christian and the cornerstone of the family’s faith. She was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and encouragement and inspiration to countless lives. Cleo worked and retired from Richland Memorial Hospital, was a member of the Olney Free Methodist Church, loved to sing and was musically inclined, and she truly enjoyed quilting and sewing.

Surviving family includes: her two children- Karla Littlejohn and her husband Carl of Sumner and Paul Smith and his wife Candy of Olney: three sisters- Opal Sprinkle of Lancaster, Lorene “Beenie” Sanders of Idaho, and Lajuana Hampton and her husband Andy of West Salem: seven grandchildren- Ken Littlejohn, Lee Littlejohn, Mary Fornelli, Cheri Spillman, Brandy Fields, Brooke Rogers, and Dusty Smith: three step-grandchildren: twenty-one great-grandchildren: eleven step-great-grandchildren: and one great-great-grandchild: and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents- Granville “Lee” and Mary Ozella Katheryne Mitchell: her husband-Willard Smith: one granddaughter- Rhonda Fletcher: six great-grandchildren: and seven siblings.

A funeral service held at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Burial in the Sumner Cemetery.
