JOBE was the son of George Washington Johnson and Mary Ann (Chambers) Johnson. He married first Nancy Ellen "Nannie" Roark on August 27, 1901, in Carroll County, Tennessee. Jobe and Nannie were the parents of two sons, Homer Curtis and Virgil David Johnson. Nannie passed away in 1905.

Jobe married second Mary Leona Simpson on October 11, 1908, in Carroll County, Tennessee. Jobe and Mary Leona were the parents of two children, Ellen Lorene and George Thomas Johnson. Mary Leona passed away in 1918.

Jobe married third Fannie A. Crews on February 10, 1922, in Carroll County, Tennessee. After Fannie's death in 1941, Jobe married fourth Ethel (White) Smith on May 14, 1942, in Carroll County, Tennessee.
