Mary E. Akers, the daughter of Wilhelm and Katherine Echternacht Ludwig, was born in Audubon township and died at the Cass County Memorial Hospital at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 6 days.

She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church north of Adair, Iowa and attended rural school in Audubon Township.

On June 8, 1921, she was united in marriage to Otto G. Akers at the Christian church parsonage in Exira, Iowa. They farmed various farms in the Audubon and Exira area. Otto died April 14, 1962 and she remained in her own home with her son, Donald, until she became a resident of the Atlantic Care center at Atlantic, Iowa in January of 1986..

She was a member of the Exira Christian church and of the Happy-Go-Lucky neighborhood club.

Preceding her in death in addition to her husband, was a great granddaughter, Sarah Rae Hagadon; her parents; one sister, Clara Perfect; and three brothers: Jacob, Henry and William Ludwig.

Survivors include her children and their spouses: Dale and Leita Akers of Walnut, IA: Donald Akers of Brayton Ia: Dalbert and Naomi Akers of Anita, IA; Lola and Glen Petersen of Lewis, IA: Lois Ann and Raymond Newell of Bentonville, AR: and Robert and Penny Akers of Exira, IA: 17 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; three sisters: Emma Ludwig of Exira, IA; Ida Cerka of Audubon, IA; and Bertha, Mrs. Henry Prugh of Jadwin, MO; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
