Donald B. Akers, the son of Otto G. and Mary E. Ludwig Akers, was born southeast of Exira, Iowa and died at the Exira Care Center in Exira at the age of 67 years, 11 months, and 23 days.
He attended rural schools then graduated from the Exira High school with the class of 1942. He worked for several farmers while attending school. Then he helped his parents operate the family farm and cared for his mother after his father's death. In 1986 he retired from farming and moved to Exira. He maintained his own home until he became a resident of the Exira Care Center in July of 1991.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
