The first Richard Pennington, whose father may have been named Ephraim was born in Penn, in 1782-1784 (two sources, with two different years)As a child or young man he moved to the Yadkin River district of NC. In 1777 he married Hannah Boone Stewart. Hannah Boone was the sister of famed "Daniel Boone". (Daniel Boone is said never to have worn a coonskin cap. He wore a wide-brimmed beaver hat worn by his fellow Quakers. He was described by a son as, 5 ft. 8 ins. tall with broad shoulders and chest, abt 175 pounds, blue eyes and fair skin.)Richard and Hannah moved to various states, due to Indian unrest. NC, Va, Kentucky, Tenn. He died in White Co, Tenn Dec. 21, 1813. Buried near Sparta, White County, Tenn. Hannah returned to Monroe Co,
Ky. She died April 9, 1828 being almost 82. Buried Old Mulky Meeting House graveyard near Thompkinsville Ky, oldest church in Ky.
Their oldest child Joshua b. Feb 23, 1778 in NC married Mary " Polly" Gist Feb. 20, 1806. Dau of Christopher Gist of Maryland, and wife Edith Cromwell Gist, descendant of Sir Henry Cromwell, uncle of Oliver Cromwell.
"Polly" died October 10, 1839 and is buried in Bethlehem Cemetery, Dogle, Tenn. near Sparta, by her son Granderson.
Joshua died in 1868 age 90, buried McMinnville, Warren Co, Tenn.
Richard Pennington of Texas was their son born near Glasgow, Barren Co, Ky, April 11, 1809. According to his Baker descendants his middle name was Daniel. Richard "Dick" Pennington
married Mary "Polly" Walling in White Co. Tenn. in 1828 They migrated to Texas in 1839, along with some of the Walling family. It is said that they went to Missouri, and maybe back to White Co. Tenn before moving to Houston Co, Texas. They first lived on the Beeson Place outside of Grapeland. They later moved next to James R, Walling a brother to Polly. He was given a grant of land by the Republic of Texas. He built a log house in 1847 and that was the last house they would live in.
Richard died Nov. 11, 1891 at 82 years. and was buried in the Pennington Cemetery which was on land he had chosen and set aside himself for a family cemetery.
He and Polly had 14 children only seven surviving to adulthood.
It is said Richard never had a photograph made of himself.

farm , Reynard community. (Community is long gone, all that is left is a Texas marker).
2. Edwin, Edwin, Edmon (in bible) Gaines b. Jan 1, 1837 in Denmark, Tenn. Married Nancy Jane Renfro Dec 19, 1858. d. March 2, 1927 buried Hayes spring Cemetery, Houston Co. Texas
3. Lawson James married Lou Baker (no date), Baker family records show his name as James Lawton b. May 20, 1846 d, Oct. 4, 1925. Buried Amherst, Lamb Co., Texas.
4. Jane Pennington b. Feb 28, 1848 Daly Community, Hou. Co,
married Soloman Baker May 7, 1865 in Hou. Co., Texas.
d. March 22, 1930 (Baker records) Ava Bush Pennington has 1933. Buried Blue Ridge, Collins Co. Texas.
5. Luzana-some list her as Louisiana, b. 1853 (Baker records) Ava Bush Pennington says 1850. married Zadock "Zade" Baker 1866, Farmersville, Collin Co, Texas. d. August 1901 at Yokum. ***
6. Henry Allen b. June 22, 1853 Hou. Co, Texas. . Married Mary Annalene or(Anna Lena)Beeson Jan. 9, 1875. Died 1925, Buried in Pennington Cemetery.
7. Caladonia "Callie" b. Oct. 12, 1855 Daly Comm. married 1st. Andrew Jackson Mobley, 2nd. Hamliton Wells Huff, on may 13, 1888 at daly Comm. She died Feb. 24, 1918. Buried in Dailey Cemetery.

***Zadock and Louisana Baker and family were found on 1900 United States Census; June 19-20 living in Indian Territory. Chickasaw Nation, Pauls Valley. I have not been able to trace them past the 1900 census. I did find Yoakum in Lavaca County, Texas. Nothing else. Nancy Bundrick

RICHARD PENNINGTON, SR.

Richard Pennington, Sr., died at home near Daly, Houston Co., TX, Nov. 11, 1891.
Deceased was born in the state of Kentucky near Glascow, April 11, 1809, hence was, at death, 82 years and seven months old.
From Kentucky he went to Tennessee where he formed the acquaintance of and wedded Miss Polly Walling who was his faithful life companion, and survived him and is now far advanced in her seventy-eighth year.
From Tennessee they went to Missouri, remaining but a short time and came to Texas in 1839, living eight years south of Crockett on what is now known as the Beeson place.
Purchased and settled the homestead where he died, in 1847, and with his own hands improved his home where he reared and comfortably supported seven children, three sons and four daughters, all of whom survive him.
Doubtless it will be of interest to many to know that he was related to the noted Kentucky pioneer Daniel Boone. His grandmother was the celebrated Boone's sister.
