Matilda Stanford Battenfield was the daughter of Miles Harper Stanford and Elizabeth Pynn. She married George William Battenfield on September 29, 1859 in Scottsville, Pope, Arkansas. They had the following eight children:

Marguerite "Maggie" Roden
Rosa "Rosie" Roden
