George William Battenfield was the son of Joseph Battenfield and Sarah Jane Miller. He was married to Matilda Stanford on September 29, 1859 in Scottsville, Pope, Arkansas ( Battenfield, G. W., 29 to Matilda Stanford 16, 29 Sept 1859 by J G Brewton, JP Book C Page 174. Pope County, Arkansas 1860 United States Census and Marriage Book Page 97 Glazner ). They had a son named John Battenfield who died after 125 days who is also buried in Langford Cemetery.

Their children were:
John Battenfield, William Tell Battenfield, David Battenfield, James McDonald Battenfield, Mary Elizabeth Battenfield Burch, Martha Ann "Mattie" Battenfield Linton, and Sarah E. Battenfield
