James Alva Brakeall, 84, of White Oak died yesterday at home. A retired inspector from the National Plant, U.S. Steel Corp., he was a member of St. Mary Czestochowa Church and a 47 year member of General Smedley D. Butler American Legion Post 701 of White Oak. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Born in Dravosburg, Feb. 24, 1910, he was a son of the late Alva and Rose Schad Brakeall. Surving are his wife, Helena Szymarek Brakeall; daughters, Nancy Patchel of White Oak and Dianne Lampenfeld of Oakland, Calif.; son, Michael J. at home; five grandchildren; sisters, Louise Opperman of Zelienople and Genevieve Akerberg of North Versailles Twp.; nieces and nephews. Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 9 p.m. in the Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday in St. Mary Church by the Rev. F.B. Lachowicz and the Rev. Francis Naziemek. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Funeral services for James Alva Brakeall of White Oak will be held Wednesday in the St. Mary Czestochowa Church with the Rev. F.B. Lachowicz, Francis Naziemek and James Owston, minister officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary Polish Cemetery. Survivors include grandchildren, Christopher Jr. and Julia Patchel; Jeffrey, Jordan and Jacob Lampenfeld.

Served with the US Army Corps of Engineers in the Pacific Theater of World War II.

Died on his daughter Dianne's birthday.
