Effie Works Ireland, widow of Hendrix Ireland, died Wednesday, February 22, 1950 at her home on Scott Street, Covington, KY after a long illness. A native of Owen County, KY, Effie was 58 years old at the time of her death. Cause of Effie's death was chronic aortic valvulitis with stenosis contributed to by previous rheumatic fever.

Effie Works Ireland was the daughter of Albert Jasper Works and his second wife, Mary Ellen Hughes (who was the daughter of George Samuel Hughes and Harriet Stevenson). George was the brother of Effie's mother-in-law, Mary Frances 'Frankie' Hughes Ireland).

Mrs. Ireland was the mother of Covington Detective Emmett Ireland and Mrs. Dorothy P. Ireland Graham (James L.), Covington, KY.
She is also survived by two half-brothers; Corporal Emmett Works, a police corporal in St. Louis, MO, and Jefferson Davis Works, who married Effie's great-aunt Rebecca Ann Hughes Works, and a half-sister, Mrs. Flora Works Hughes, (who married Effie's great uncle, Augustus (Gus) Hughes), of Cynthiana, KY). Effie also had a half-brother, Ausker (Oscar) Works, DOB about 1879.

Services were held Saturday. February 25, 1950, at the Allison & Rose funeral home, Covington, KY. Mrs. Ireland was buried in Highland Cemetery.
