Esther Emilie Robinson, age 86, a longtime resident of Cannon Falls and a current resident at The View in Cannon Falls, died following a brief illness on Sunday morning, November 30, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

Esther was born on May 26, 1922 in Richardton, North Dakota, the oldest of ten children, to Paul G. and Dorothy E. (Wagner) Stieg. She graduated from Taylor High School, Taylor, ND in 1940, and went on to receive her Elementary Teaching Certificate from the Dickinson State Teachers College. She taught rural country school for a short time in Montana and North Dakota.

Esther served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, from August 7, 1944 until her honorable discharge on October 3, 1945.

Esther married James H. Robinson on June 10, 1948 in Stanton, MN.

Esther was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, where she was active in the WELCA. She was also involved with the American Legion, and the Disabled American Veterans. Being of service was very important to her, and she volunteered at the Cannon Falls Food Shelf, and was involved with the Cannon Falls Hospital Auxiliary. Her family and friends were most important to her, and she enjoyed being involved with Park Street Apartment and church events.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on June 28, 1983; her daughter, Delaine Edwards in February, 2008; brothers, Ray and Richard Stieg; and sister, Pauline Perron.

She is survived by her children, Daryl (Sally) Robinson of Northfield, Amelie (Robert) Hyams of Roseville, and Karen (Simon) Pawlowski of McKinney, TX; son-in-law, Timothy Edwards of Tomball, TX; four grandchildren, D.J. and Teri Edwards of Tomball, TX, Alena and Aaron Hyams of Roseville; sisters and brother, Doris Kenow of Circle Pines, Evelyn Goetz of Richardton, ND, Edith Gress of Candby, OR, Ruth (Howard) Dukart of Bloomington, Donald (Betty) Stieg of Burnsville, and Carla Michelsen of West Fargo, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the First English Lutheran Church, with Pastor Phillip Ruud officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home, and on Friday from 12-1 p.m. at the church.

Memorials are preferred to First English Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
