Etta Irene Bryant was born February 14, 1889 in Richmond County, Va., the daughter of John Spillman Bryant and his second wife, Mahala (Rock) Bryant. Her father first married Jane Hale, having children - Charles, John, Hiram and Henry. He second, married Mahala Rock, having children - Colis, Thomas, Richard, Caroll, and Etta.

Etta married June 10, 1905 in Westmoreland County, Va., to LLoyd Hamilton King.

They were the parents of 15 children:
