David Jeremiah Barton was born on September 14, 1854 in Perry, Marion County, Alabama to Robert Watson Barton and Martha Carolina Schaffer. He was married on December 29, 1879 in Clay County, Mississippi to Mary Caroline Marshall. Together, the Bartons had seven children: Myrtle Virginia Barton who married John C. Bland; Robert Eli Barton who married Nellie Pearl Boone; David Crockett Barton who married Evvia Esper Connally; Claudie Ida Barton who married Charles Arnold Money; Arthur Clarence Barton who married Almer Jane McCool; Minnie Lee Barton who married Joseph Benjamin Pate; and Jesse Benton Barton who married Della Harriet Lusk.

The Bartons moved to Texas and lived for a time in Rice, Navarro County, Texas and then moved on to Haskell County, Texas. David Jeremiah Barton died on Jan uary 12, 1943 at the age of 88. His cause of death was listed as Coronary Thrombosis.
