Drowned - In Bohner's Lake, abut 3 1/2 miles south west of this village, on Sunday afternoon last, the 18th, Miss ELIZABETH GRATZ, daughter of John Gratz. It appears Miss Gratz and Miss Jacobs took a boat, went out upon the lake and as one of them was rowing the oar lock became loosened and the oar slipping away from them, when both grabbed for the oar to save it -- and in so doing upset the boat throwing them both into the water. Miss Jacobs succeeded in getting hold of the boat paddling herself ashore, but Miss Gratz was unable to do so and was drowned. She was taken out in ten minutes but too late to resuscitate her. Dr Darling was called but could do nothing.
Miss Gratz was eighteen years and six months old.
