Lovick Pierce Garrison's first marriage was in Carroll Co., Ga., 1840, and he was Carrollton postmaster that year. The census for 1840 indicates that his young sister, Jane Frost, and dau., Sarah Harriet, were living with him and his bride.

His nephew, C. J. Garrison, teacher, was in his home at census-time, 1850, Paulding Co. He was a merchant and real estate dealer and moved often. Euharlee Lodge, No. 97, AF&AM, Van Wert, had his membership 1850-53. During this time, his wife, Nancy, d. and he remarried. First child of the 2nd m. was born near Cedartown in March 1855.

A deed, 7 March 1856, gave his residence as "of Haralson Co, Ga." and the Van Wert Lodge carried his name from 1856-58.

Lovick Pierce Garrison, Jr. was b. in Feb. 1860, at Cedartown, Polk Co. However, the 1860 Haralson Co., Ga. census, taken 17 July 1860, lists this family as living in the 4th District whose postoffice was Etna, Polk Co. He was on 1860 membership rolls of Buchanan Lodge No. 113, AF&AM, of Haralson Co. and was their Worshipful Master in 1861.

Mary Jane, his 2nd wife may have died soon after the Feb. birth of L. P., Jr., for, in Oct. of that same year he married Sally Moore in Haralson Co. and she became stepmother to 5 chn. under 12 yrs. of age. According to Buchanan Masonic Lodge records, they were there until 1865.

Among the 35 graduates of the Class of 1866, Atlanta Medical College, was L. P. Garrison. This college, now Emory University School of Medicine at Atlanta, Ga., was reorganized in 1865, amazingly soon after the war. There is no record of how long L. P. Garrison attended before graduation; he came to Texas in Dec. 1866.

His family recalls that Dr. Garrison first settled in Rusk Co., then moved to the vicinity of Mexia. Cotton Gin Lodge #154, AF&AM, registered his membership from 15 April 1876 to 20 Jan. 1877; this community was 7-8 miles from Mexia. By June, 1878, he was affiliated with Tannehill Lodge, #52, AF&AM, at Dallas. 1880 census gave his address as Cedar Spring Street at Caroline, now a business district.
