She was born May 24, 1904 in Huntsville, Texas, and her parents were Hamp & Charity Lacy. Alberta was the baby out of 19 siblings, of whom all preceded her in death, including her parents.

She was married to Fred Herndon(preceded her in death) and to that union was born 4 children; Lucy Jones-Stockton, CA; Annie Harrison-Huntsville, Texas; preceding her in death were son John Herndon; and daughter Lula Johnson, Mama Berta, as she was affectionally known, was blessed to have 11 grandchildren: Shelia H. Kelley, Pinkey Harrison, Robin Harrison, Darneice Harrison, Helen Harrison Merrill, Lisa Harrison Rolling, Curvey Harrison(deceased); Ronnie Davis, Charles W. Johnson, John Dennis Brook, Georgia Faye Tucker and 17 greatgrandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She spent her life in Huntsville, Texas working in varying capacities and along the way became friend and acquaintance with a great number of people who loved her dearly as well. She was a wonderful and caring mother and grandmother and as her life was extended by the grace of God, many came to be amazed at her perseverance and the grace of God that was upon her life.
