She was born July 14, 1925 in St. Anna, Wis. to Patrick and Martha (Farrell) Cain.
Lois graduated from Kiel High School at the age of 16. She then moved to Milwaukee where she attended the Milwaukee Business Institute. Upon her graduation she worked in the Personnel Department of Schlitz Brewery.
On June 20, 1953 she married Eugene W. Steber at St. Anne Catholic Church in St. Anna, WI. In 1954, when Gene was transferred, they moved to Green Bay.
Lois was employed for many years with the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay and served for 23 years as Executive Secretary to the Most Reverend Aloysius J. Wycislo.
Lois volunteered at Paul's Pantry, served on the Board of Directors of the Civic Music Association, and was a member of the Lois Club. She was proud of her Irish heritage and was a longtime member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. She was also a longtime member of St. Agnes Parish and a member of the Parish Women's Club. But most importantly, Lois loved spending time with her friends and family, especially the times spent in Crivitz.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Dr. Anne and Mark Kinzer, New Berlin; Peggy and Mike Olsen, Green Bay; Tom Steber, Green Bay; four grandchildren, Steven and Laura Olsen, Hannah and Adam Kinzer; a sister and brother-in-law, Rosanne (Al) Winkel, Kiel; a brother and sister-in-law, Pat (Patti) Cain, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Audrey Cain, Oshkosh; Delores Cain, Elkhart Lake; her constant companion, her dog, Jake; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Steber was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene W. Steber in 1999; four brothers, Leo, Francis, Harold and John Cain.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., Green Bay, from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday. Visitation will continue from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 Ninth Street, Green Bay. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church with Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Catholic Mausoleum.
