John P. Cain, age 83, of 113 W. Rhine Street, Elkhart Lake, WI passed away Thursday Morning, May 17, at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan where he had been a patient the past week.

He was born on August 19, 1923 in the Town of Russell, WI; a son of the late Patrick H. and Martha Farrell Cain. John attended St. Anna Grade School and graduated from Kiel High School in 1941. He worked at the Milwaukee stockyards for a couple of years.

On October 1st, 1947 he married Dolores M. Mueller at St. Anna Catholic Church in St. Anna. The couple has resided in the Village of Elkhart Lake since their marriage. John worked at Nick Thielmann's Sausage Company in Elkhart Lake for nine years and then at Johnsonville Sausage for 31 years retiring in 1987.

He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Elkhart Lake, served as a Trustee and Treasurer of the church for many years, belonged to the Holy Name Society in the church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 1789 in Plymouth. John was a charter member of the Elkhart Lake Lions Club, a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award and was instrumental in organizing and starting the Green-Glen Lions Club and several other Lions Clubs in the area. He belonged and served as past president of the Winooski Bowmen Club, was a charter member of the Hermitage Sportsman Club, charter member of the St. Anna Sportsman Club, where he also served as past president.

John was a 17 year member of the Elkhart Lake Fire Department, serving as 1st Assistant Chief. He was also a Deputy Sheriff for the early Road America Races in Elkhart Lake. He was most proud of being the Elkhart Lake Little League coach for 13 years and winning several championships. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was an avid sports fan, especially for the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers.

Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Dolores of Elkhart Lake; his children, Kathleen (Robert) Hanke of Plymouth, Michael (Sandra) Cain of Elkhart Lake, JoAnn (Dennis) Streblow of Elkhart Lake, William (Kristine) Cain of Victoria, MN, Karen (Daniel) Schmahl of Elkhart Lake, Daniel (Melanie) Cain of Elkhart Lake; twelve grandchildren: Andrew (Jenna) Hanke, John Hanke (special friend: Tiana Vreeke), Erin Hanke (her fiancé: Todd Lowell), Jennifer Cain (her fiancé: Ryan Williams), Matthew (Amanda) Cain, Wendy (Ronald) Osero, Kerry (Troy) Wenzel, Gwendolyn (Stephen) Maass, Jacob Schmahl, and Brennen, Trevor and Taylor Cain; five great grandchildren: Atheana Albrecht-Hanke, Ariannah Albrecht-Hanke, Isabella Cain, Julia Cain and William Maass; two sisters Lois Steber of Green Bay and Rose Ann (Alfred) Winkel of Kiel; one brother: Patrick (Patricia) Cain of Elmhurst, Illinois; five sisters-in-law: Audrey Cain of Oshkosh, Rita Lachmund of Florida, Bette (Harold) Lehmann of Plymouth, Imelda Barry of Elkhart Lake, Marian Mauer of New Holstein; two brothers-in-law: Ambrose (Betty) Mueller of Plymouth and Raymond (Viola) Mueller of Priest River, Idaho. John is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by four brothers: infant brother, Leo, Harold and Francis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday morning, May 21, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Elkhart Lake. Father Dan Lasecki, Pastor of the church will officiate and burial will be at the St. Thomas Aquinas North Cemetery in the Town of Rhine.

Friends may call the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth from 3-8:00 P.M. on Sunday evening, May 20, and on Monday, May 21, at the Resurrection Chapel at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Elkhart Lake from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
