Harry Houtwed was born to Jens and Hannah Bach Houtwed Dec. 22, 1892, at Ruskin. He died Tuesday Aug. 30, at the Veterans Hospital, Grand Island.
He was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church.
During World War I he served his country in France and England.
After attending Dana College, he worked in Sioux City, Iowa, Kansas City and Excelsior Springs, Mo. Later he moved to a farm in the Mount Clare vicinity where he farmed until 1936. The remainder of his life he lived in the Ruskin and Nora area.
He became a member of the Nuckolls County Barracks No. 2275 in 1969.
For the past three years he made his home in the Veteran Home, Grand Island.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Nels and Chris, and four sisters, Mettie Lundsgard, Mary Benson, Christina Hansen and Sena Hansen.
He is survived by 17 nephews and nieces.
Services were at the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, Sept. 1, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Jeffery K. Chubb officiating. Military rites were by the Legion Post, No. 242, Ruskin. Burial was in Spring Creek Cemetery, Ruskin.
