2005 Mar 15 - Traverse City - Shirley Ann Hankins was born Sunday 26 Jan 1941 in Elk Rapids to Ernest Cleveland & Marion Jane (Greene) Hankins. She attended two years of high school. She married Gregory James Yager Friday 1 Mar 1957 in Cadillac. On Sunday 16 Jun 1962 the home of Gregory Yager at 1163 East 40 1/2 Rd in Cadillac was struck by lightning and burned to the ground; the family lost all of their possessions in the fire. Gregory & Shirley Yager and their 3 daughters, were visiting friends in Manton at the time of the fire. When the family returned home early Sunday morning Gregory found the home completely demolished. She worked for the Frankfort Garment Company in Cadillac and enjoyed crocheting, word searches, casinos and puzzles. She was a member of the Boon Baptist Church. She lost left leg to peripheral artery disease. After the death of Gregory she married Joseph William 'Bill' Behrns Friday 20 Dec 1996 at their home in Boon.
Shirley Ann (Hankins, Yager) Behrns of Boon died at 12:50 pm Tuesday 15 Mar 2005 at the age of 64 y 1 m 17 d at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City from Ischemic Bowel Disease with an interval between onset and death as 2 days. At the time of her death she had been a patient in the hospital. She had been in and out of the hospital for the last four months before her death. Survivors include her husband; 4 daughters; 3 stepchildren; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; her mother; 9 sisters; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gregory 6 Jun 1994; 2 sons, Gregory Allen Yager 24 Aug 1961 and Douglas James Yager 20 Nov 1970; 2 daughters, Cynthia Kay Yager 16 Jul 1964 and Jayne Lee Yager 26 Mar 1972; her father, Ernest Cleveland Hankins 18 Feb 1985; and 2 brothers, Ernest Junior Hankins 30 Nov 1995 and Robert Walter Hankins Sr 30 Nov 1995.
Visitation was 10-11 am Saturday 19 Mar 2005 at Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac. Funeral services were 11 am Saturday 19 Mar 2005 at Peterson Funeral Home with Rev Lloyd Jewett officiating. Burial was in Plot 47 in Selma Township Cemetery in Cadillac.
Memorial contributions were to be directed to the family. Envelopes were available at the funeral home.
She is buried in same plot as her husband, Gregory; baby's Gregory Allen Yager, Cynthia Kay Yager, Jayne Lee Yager, and Douglas James Yager.
Committal services were 10 am Thursday 14 Apr 2005 at Selma Township Cemetery with Rev Lloyd W. Jewett officiating.
