Rex Udell Sykes, the son of George A. and Lulu M. (Wortman) Sykes, was born on July 5, 1918 north of Ruskin, NE. Rex was one of nine children. He passed away on July 5, 2003 in Aurora, NE at the age of 85 years.

Rex attended Summit Country School, north of Ruskin High School. On May 11, 1941, he married Myrna Petersen at her parent's home. This union was blessed with four children.
Rex and Myrna farmed southwest of Ruskin for six years and thirty-three years at Davenport until retiring to Superior in 1981.

Rex was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Danish Brotherhood and Bethany Lutheran Church, Ruskin, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Myrna, one brother, Harry and one sister, Myrtle Bergman.

Rex is survived by his children, Lana Jordan and husband Gary of Salina, KS; Phillip and wife Bonnie of Norfolk, NE; Steven and wife Lynn of Lincoln, NE; Loma Grone and husband Dennis of Davenport, NE; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Hansen of Deshler, NE; Della Schiermeyer and husband Harvey of St. Joseph, MO; Fern Fisher and husband Bill of Davenport, NE; Alice O'Bar of Phoenix, AZ; brothers, Arthur and wife Rayoma of Davenport, NE; Archie and wife Loretta of Loveland, CO; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 8, at 2:00 PM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, NE with Rev. Evelyn Phillips officiating. Carlita Price as organist with congregational singing.

Pallbearers were grandsons: Troy Jordan, Doug Sykes, Jeff Sykes, Jeremy Sykes, Brock Grone and Heath Grone. Honorary Pallbearers were granddaughters; Michelle Kralicek, Tricia Sykes and Hilary Grone.

Interment was in the Spring Creek Cemetery at Ruskin, NE.
Memorials will be given to Spring Creek Cemetery and Bethany Lutheran Church in care of the family.
