ILLNESS OF 5 DAYS FATAL TO JOHN GAST, 51
Friends of John Gast, well known farmer residing in Union township, were profoundly shocked to learn of his death which occurred at 5 a.m. today at the old Gast homestead, four miles west of Valparaiso.
Cause of his illness has not been definitely determined. Taken ill last Monday night his condition became graver with each passing day. Either acute indigestion or ptomaine poisoning is believed to have been the death cause.
Mr. Gast was born fifty-one years ago on the old Gast homestead which he owned at the time of his death. He was a son of Andrew and Frances (Bentley) Gast, pioneer residents of west Porter county. All his life was spent in farming, he taking over the greater part of his father's farm at the latter's death.
Surviving are four brothers, Alderman Louis Gast and Michael Gast of Valparaiso, and Andrew and Frank of Union township, and two sisters, Mrs. Isaac Hodsden and Mrs. Andrew Negosinske, both of Union township.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Andrew Negosinske home, on Lincoln highway, west of Valparaiso and will be private. Burial will be in St. Paul's cemetery.
Friends desiring to view the remains may do so from Saturday afternoon up until Sunday noon at the Negosinke home.
