Mrs. Josie Irene Metzger, well known Gresham resident of 249 SE Kelly, died Sept. 8.
Mrs. Metzger was born Josie Irene Hoagland, Jan. 6, 1882, and at the time of her death was 79 years of age. Her earliest years were spent in Nebraska where she started school. While still a youngster, she and her family moved to the Gresham area.
On Dec. 31, 1901 at Portland she married Frank Metzger, who died in 1956. She was a member of Gresham Methodist church participating in many church affairs, and a active member of Gresham Garden club.
Survivors include nine children, Mrs. L. F. (Thelma) Bowman, Tokeland, Wash.; Mrs. H. L. (Maude) Means, Portland; Mrs. J. D. (Mildred) DeGrott, Everett; Richard D. Metzger, Portland; Eldon C., Framingham, Mass.; W. Robert, Salem; James, Gresham; Herbert M., Boring, and Thomas, Gresham; 21 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; one sister and one brother, Mrs. Ethlyn Beebe, Missoula, Mont., and Melvin I Sunday, Portland. Funeral services were held Tuesday Sept. 12, in the Chapel of Carroll Funeral Home. Interment was in the Old Gresham Pioneer cemetery with Rev. W. Harry Monroe officiating.
