Mrs. Duffield Dies Suddenly

Mrs. Araminta G. Duffield, wife of Dyer Duffield, died suddenly at her home in South Sutton Friday evening of last week, the cause of her death being heart failure. She had just returned to the house from feeding her chickens and complained of feeling sick, expiring ten to fifteen minutes later. Mrs. Duffield was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Keener and was born in the Middle Run section of this county August 31, 1851. about twenty years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Duffield moved from their farm near town to Sutton and for a number of years successfully conducted the Duffield hotel, later known as the Hamric hotel. Retiring from the hotel business several years ago, they have resided in South Sutton. Mrs. Duffield was known by a large number of people throughout this part of the state and was admired by all for her energy, sound judgment, and inherent good qualities. She was a Christian woman and had long been a member of the Baptist church. She is survived by her husband, whose companion she had been for 55 years, and the following children: Mrs. Sarah J. Smyth, Charles A. Duffield, Mrs. U. F. Duffield, Mrs. Emma Eakle, John B. Duffield, Grover C. Duffield, Addison Duffield, William C. Duffield, and Robert Duffield. One daughter, Mrs. N. Van Wilson, died a few years ago. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. J. F. Cost, pastor of the Sutton Baptist church, were conducted at the Duffield home Monday afternoon and interment was made in the Benjamin Skidmore cemetery.
