Sarah was born in Bradley County, Tennessee. Her parents came to Sangamon county in 1851, settling on a farm east of Loami. She married William Parkinson "Billy" Campbell on March 28, 1871 in Sangamon County.

They had four children: Amanda, who was a year and a half, when she died, Olive "Ollie" Miller, Alvin Nicholas and Elizabeth "Bess" Brown.

Bess married Fred Brown, the son of Morrison R. and Julia Ann (Barger) Morrison on March 2, 1904. They farmed in Sangamon County near Loami and there raised five children; three daughters and two sons: William Richard "Dick" Brown (1906-1978), a daughter, Mildred Olive Brown (1914-1999), Lillian Lucille Brown (1916-1989) and a son.

She was a member of the South Fork M. E. Church.
