Thomas Jefferson and Abigail Ann (Benjamin) Adams had five daughters born in Missouri, May, Myrtle, Ella, Letha and Grace. In 1892 Jeff and Abby moved their family to the Cherokee Strip to a place near what is now Chelsea, Oklahoma. Another daughter, Dolly, was born there in 1894.
In 1897 they moved in two covered wagons to Old Greer County to an area known as the River Bend. This was made by a bend in the North Fork of the Red River. It is now Jackson County near Headrick. They were three weeks on the road. A young man, Lewis Soloman, drove one of the wagons through and stayed on to work for Jeff. A year later he married 15 year old Myrtle. The following year Oliver Brannon came from Chelsea and married 17 year old May.
In 1902 Jeff and his family moved across the river into Kiowa County on to an eighty acre tract. It was located 6 miles west and 1/2 mile north of Snyder. They lived in a tent for nine months while they put in a crop of cotton to sell and maize for the livestock. Then Jeff built a sturdy wood frame house, which consisted of two rooms. Each room was 14 feet by 14 feet. He dug a well and walled it in with new pine lumber. For months the water tasted of the pine boards.
The girls rode horses two miles to attend school at Tripp school house. Tripp was located 5 1/2 miles west of Snyder, close to Long Mountain. The concrete cellar is still there. In the Spring and Fall, when the weather was good, the girls had to stay home and help with the field work.
In 1902 Ella married John Adams (no relation), son of William and Emaline (Pierce) Adams. In 1906 Letha married John's cousin, Edward Adams, son of Uriah and Jane (Adams) Adams. Jane was a sister of William Adams. In 1907 Grace married Bert Adams, a brother of John. Later Dolly married Fred Hyde and died in childbirth with her first child. She was 21 years old at the time.
Later in life when all their daughters were married, Jeff and Abby took a boy, Birch Waddel, into their home and raised him as a foster son.
