Myrtle (Latimer) Smith, daughter of James K. and Sarah E. Latimer, came to Oklahoma in a covered wagon in 1896 with her parents, two sisters and three brothers. The family settled on a farm in the Corbett community where she attended grade school.

On Dec. 25, 1907, she was married to Henry David Smith, also of Corbett. They lived on a farm near Corbett and six children were born to this union. After many years, they moved into Lexington, where Mr. Smith worked as a carpenter. He preceded her in death in 1965.

At the time of her death, Mrs. Smith was living in Oklahoma City. She was of the Baptist faith. Left to mourn her passing were four daughters (Ruby Rose, Aline Blumhof and her husband, Virgil, Vautress Nicholson and her husband, Bill, and Bonnie Shobert and her husband, O'Neal) and one son, Lawrence and his wife, Bobbie. Also surviving were several grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as one sister, Louise Latimer and one brother, Kirk Latimer, both of Foss, OK. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, J. B., in 1913, one son-in-law, Wesley Rose in Germany during WW2, one sister, Ella Black, two brothers, Guy and Tom Latimer and her parents.
