Ester Leroy Hearon

Born Jan. 18, 1912 in Whitehouse, Texas to parents, Joe Hearon & Maggie Susan Mitchum Hearon. He died at the age of 85, Dec. 2, 1997. His siblings included three brothers, James Richard Hearon, Thomas Vestal Hearon, and John Henry Hearon; two sisters, Bertha Hearon Worsham and Molien Hearon Jones; three half-brothers, Arthur Hearon, Andrew Hearon and Alvin Hearon; one half sister, Allie Hearon.

Leroy married Opal Edna Laney, 29 Oct. 1932 in Shreveport, La. They were parents to three children: Billy Roy Hearon & wife Sandra (Spier), Jerry Lee Hearon & wife, Lois (Nobles) and Elaine Marie Hearon Everett Shelton & husband David. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, James Dwight Everett. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Kerry Everett, Sherrie Hearon Alexander, Karen Hearon Hill, Kevin Hearon and Tony Hearon; six great-grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.

He was one of three graduating seniors, about 1928 or 1929, of Whitehouse High School. He owned his own ice house in the middle of Whitehouse and delivered ice to Whitehouse residents and surrounding Lake Tyler area residents before the lake was built and before electricity was available for refrigeration. He drove a school bus for the Whitehouse Independent School District (Buncom Route) on credit because the school district didn't have the money to pay them. He farmed extensively with the help of his wife, Opal, raised cattle, and eventually went to work for the City of Tyler in the Water Department. He was a plant operator at the Pump Station located at Lake Tyler for several years, then spent the rest of his time with the city at the Water Filtration Plant on Golden Road in Tyler. He worked a total of 20+ years for the City of Tyler before retirement. He deer hunted for many, many years at a lease in Fredericksburg, Texas with his sons and brothers. Also greatly enjoyed fishing. Leroy had a wonderful life - worked hard, laughed a lot, enjoyed his children & grandkids! What a wonderful man. Loved and respected by all who knew him.
