Bertha Sackman was born 28 Oct 1899 in the small town of Java in the Walworth County, South Dakota. Her parents Christina (Peters) and Christoph Sackmann immigrated from Borodino, Russia to South Dakota. Bertha was one of nine children. The family moved to Mercer, North Dakota by 1910, when Bertha was 10 years old.

On 16 May 1920 Bertha married Walter William August (W.W.A.) Keller in Mercer, North Dakota. Walter and Bertha had four children: Paul, John, James, and Mary. Two of their sons, Paul and John, became clergymen.

Walter William August Keller was born 22 May 1895 in Minnesota to Ottilie Ulrike Frederike Kroenke and William Louis Keller. Walter had nine siblings. He was known as Rev. W.W.A. Keller.

Walter had attended Lutheran Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was a pastor at St. John's Lutheran Church in Jamestown for many years.

Walter died 03 Jan 1982 at age 86 in Jamestown, North Dakota. Bertha died 30 Jun 1990 at age 90. They are buried together in Highland Home Cemetery in Jamestown.
