Ottelia "Tillie" Sackman was born 03 Jun 1896 in Java, South Dakota to Christina (Peters) and Christoph Sackman, Russian immigrants. She was the second oldest and had five sisters and three brothers. As a young girl, she and her parents moved to Mercer, North Dakota where she attended school. At about age 18 Tillie married Fred Amos Sommars Sr. on 03 May 1914 in Mercer, North Dakota. Tillie and Fred had two sons and four daughters.

Before 1930 the family moved to Carrington, North Dakota. In the late 1940s the family moved to Jamestown, North Dakota. Fred Sr. was a railway Station Agent for the Northern Pacific in Mercer, then Carrington, then Jamestown. Fred died 14 Sep 1964 in the Jamestown Hospital at age 71.

Tillie lived in a nursing home in Minneapolis for several years before her death. Our family used to take her out to eat when we were in town; she loved the Pancake House. She was very hard of hearing but was so cheerful and loved to crack jokes. She was very good company. Towards the end she developed dementia. Tillie died 30 Jan 1985 in Minneapolis at age 88. Her funeral was on 06 Feb 1985 in Jamestown at the Eddy Chapel. She is buried at the Highland Home Cemetery Plot BF-16-8 in Jamestown, North Dakota.

Tillie was survived by two sons and four daughters: the Rev. Fred (Marion), Edmonds, Washington; Robert (Shirley), Denver, Colorado; Lyla (Gerhard) Anderson; Lorraine (Howard) Moore; Lois (Kenneth) Bremer and Lola (Edward) Roeglin, all of Minneapolis. Also a brother and four sisters: Julius Sackman, Apache Junction, Arizona; Bertha (W.W.A.) Keller and Ella (Harry) Lynne, both Jamestown; Edna (Oscar) Clemens, Coulee Dam, Washington; Nettie (Otto) Just, Eureka, South Dakota; and 14 grandchildren.
