My dad, Samuel V. Stacy, was born in 1905 on the family farm in South Carolina. He graduated from Gaffney High School, Clemson University, and N.C. State University. He came to Georgia in 1931 and worked at the Georgia Experiment Station for 39 years, where he did soil testing all over the state and worked on many new varieties of grass, cotton, wheat and other plants. At the time of his retirement, dad was head of the Agronomy Department at the Georgia Experiment Station. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a Baptist and a life deacon at First Baptist Church in Griffin.

I am one of the luckiest people on earth because he and momma were such great parents to me. He and my daughter were the best of buddies. Dad was my hero, and I miss him today as much as I did when he left this life for a better place.
