From the Herrin High School paper, 1976... "From March 1954, Mrs. Flossine Carlisle has served the Herrin High office as the principal's secretary. After 22 years, she has decided to retire to "a whole lot of doing nothing." Mrs. Carlisle has seen 22 years of changes, not only in the school staff itself but also in the students and teachers. She says she remembers when girls were not permitted to wear slacks to school or even to a football game."

From her obituary, 2000... "Mrs. Hawn worked from 1951 to 1954 at the Boy Scout office in Herrin. From 1954 to 1976, she was secretary to the principal at Herrin High School. She was a longtime adult Sunday School teacher at Herrin First Baptist Church. She was also active for many years in the adult choir and was a founding member of the Senior Adult group "Young at Heart."
