He is survived by the wife, eight children and three brothers. Funeral services will be held at the house at 1:00 p.m. and at the Evangelical church at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, Rev. P. A. Lang officiating. Gustav's second obituary that was published in the Preston Times newspaper (Preston, MN) on January 20, 1909: August Schwartz died at his home in this city on Friday morning, 15th inst., at 5:30, after an illness of about four months. Deceased was born in Bennington township, Mower county, March 19th, 1860, and had lived in Preston for forty years. He was married in December, 1879, to Miss Elizabeth Fernau, and she, together with seven children, survives him. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. P. A. Lang at the Evangelical church on Sunday at 2 p.m. and the remains were interred in Crown Hill cemetery.

Note: The second obituary lists his date of birth as March 19th, 1860, but according to his death record found at the Fillmore County Courthouse in Preston, MN, his date of birth was January 19, 1860. Also note that the birth year on his grave marker is incorrect. It says 1866 instead of 1860.
