The funeral Mass for Mary V. Marx will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha, with the Rev. Glenn Frerichs officiating. Interment will be in St. Felix Cemetery.

Mrs. Marx, 95, a longtime Wabasha resident, died Friday (July 4, 2008) at St. Elizabeth's Nursing Home in Wabasha. She had resided at the nursing home for the past four years.

Mary Wodele was born Jan. 7, 1913, in Wabasha, and graduated from St. Felix High School in Wabasha in 1932. Prior to her marriage she worked at the St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, was a nursemaid for an attorney in Wayzata, Minn., and was a nursemaid for an attorney in Laguna Beach, Calif., for several years. Returning to Wabasha, she worked as a nursemaid at Buena Vista Sanitarium in Wabasha.

On Oct. 7, 1940, she married Henry Marx at St. Felix Catholic Church. After her children were grown, she worked as a cook at the Idle Hour Restaurant in Wabasha and the Pioneer Supper Club on Sand Prairie. Mrs. Marx was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church, the Council of Catholic Women, and the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Auxiliary in Wabasha. She enjoyed gardening, especially growing flowers, playing cards and traveling. In retirement, she and her husband wintered in Mesa, Ariz.

She is survived by her husband; five sons, Michael of Alta Loma, Calif., Peter (Brenda) of Wabasha, Harold (Mary Beth) of Mesa, Ariz., and Nicholas and Matthew (LeAnne), both of Wabasha; two daughters, Mary Lou Schneider of Salina, Kan., and Claire (James) Abbott of Wabasha; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and seven sisters, Clara Lund, Helen Zeimetz and Emily Ford, all of Wabasha, Bernice Kondro of Burbank, Calif., Catherine Whitcomb of Long Beach, Calif., Doris Warnken of Hudson, Wis., and Beatrice Beck of Penn Valley, Calif. Other survivors include a brother-in-law, Alfred Cox of Wabasha; two sisters-in-law, Catherine "Katie" Wodele and Anna Mae Wodele, both of Wabasha; and more than 150 nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles; five brothers and five sisters.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha, with a CCW Rosary service at 4:30 p.m. and a Prayer service at 7 p.m. Friends may also call an hour before the service Tuesday at the church.

Memorials are preferred to St. Elizabeth's Nursing Home or St. Felix School.
