Beverley K. Edwards VIRGINIA BEACH - Beverley Rosalie Kaufmann Edwards, 83, passed away April 11, 2008, in Sentara Leigh Hospital surrounded by family and friends. The daughter of William David and Mary Charlotte Kaufmann, she was born in San Francisco, Calif. She was preceded in death by George Curtis Edwards, U.S. Navy retired, her husband of 47 years. She was a graduate of the University of California at Berkley and received a master's in science education from Old Dominion University. She taught school for the Navy while in Kwajalein, Marshall Islands and continued her love of teaching with the Virginia Beach Schools at Aragona Elementary, Woodstock Elementary and Kemps Landing Middle for 23 years. She was among the first educators to introduce environmental science and was highly regarded for her Chesapeake Bay and Dismal Swamp curriculums. After retirement she volunteered teaching science to her grandson's class at St. Matthew's School. She was an active member of the Virginia Beach Education Association, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Submarine Veterans of World War II and St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Left to cherish her memory are six children, Richard L. Edwards and his wife Roz of St. Augustine, Fla., Curtis W. Edwards and wife Sondra of Peachtree City, Ga., Charlotte Wilkins and husband Terry of Chesapeake, Mary E. Peters and her husband Paul of Chesapeake, Jannette M. Edwards of Virginia Beach and Felicia (Lisa) C. Jennings and her husband Gene of Chesapeake. She leaves 13 adoring grandchildren, Sara Edwards, Jeffrey Edwards, William Edwards, Jerry Pacillio III, Mark Edwards, Lindsay Edwards, Kristin Peters, Kelsey Peters, Kayce Jennings, Karie Peters, Jenny Wilkins, John Jennings and Kyle Peters; and two devoted dogs, Brixie and Minnie. The family will receive friends until 8 p.m. after a short wake conducted by Deacon Bill Blatnick at 6 p.m. Monday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel. A funeral Mass will be conducted at St. Matthew's Church at 10 a.m. Tuesday and burial will immediately follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
