George C. Edwards, 73, of the 3300 block of Milissa St., a retired chief petty officer, died March 29, 1991, in a Portsmouth hospital.

Mr. Edwards, a native of Isle of Wight County, retired from the Navy after 26 years and from civil service at Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 10 years. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 60, the Police Association of Virginia and the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Survivors include his wife, Beverley R. Edwards; four daughters, Charlotte Pacalio, Mary Peters and Lisa Jennings, all of Chesapeake, and Jannette Edwards of Wiesbaden, Germany; two sons, Richard Edwards of Bamberg, Germany, and Curtis Edwards of Kansas City, Kansas; three sisters, Willie Jones and Idabelle Wells, both of Suffolk, and Maggie Jones of Smithfield; three brothers, Ishmel Edwards and Joseph L. Edwards, both of Smithfield, and Robert Edwards of Nags Head; and eight grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, by Chaplain L. Lawson Byrd. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may join the family from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to U.S. Submarine Veterans of World War II Memorial Scholarship Fund or Memorial Fund, 2508 Fala Circle, Norfolk, Va. 23518.
