Brantley Maloy was the son of James Chesley Duncan and Lydia Belle Rice Duncan. He and Bertha Gertrude Frady were married in 1929. They had 3 children. They built and ran the Skyline Cafe in Buffington and Lakeland Drive-in in Canton.
He worked for over 50 years in the Canton Cotton Mill. He started work in the late 1920's and worked 11-3/4 hours a day, Monday thru Friday, and 6-3/4 hours on Saturday for $5 a week. He had to quit school after the 3rd grade to work in the fields and help with saw milling. He was so proud of winning a pocket knife at school for being the smartest boy in the 3rd grade. A lot of people didn't know how to take him, as he wasn't a sociable person, but he was one in a million. He even boycotted his own 90th birthday party! His family all gathered to celebrate the occasion at a cook-out at his house. However,he refused to come out of the house, saying "If they want to see me, they can come in here."
Papa Duncan was a wonderful man that never complained about the hand he was dealt. We miss him very much, and we know that he is watching the Price is Right in heaven.
