Obituary
Died: Mary Carpenter, of Washington township, Republic Co., Kansas, Nov. 15th 1891, age 80 yrs, 7 mo and 11 days
The subject of this memorial was born in Columbus, Ohio, April 4, 1811, Her maiden name was Mary Johnson, and was married to Nehemiah Carpenter when but 15 years of age. She was the mother of 15 children, two of whom died in infancy. The family moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1852, where her husband died in 1866, In 1874, she with her 13 children, moved to Kansas. At an early age she became a member of the Baptist church, of which she was a faithful and consistent member. After their removal to Iowa, she and husband united with the Presbyterian church. The deceased was a devoted wife and a loving mother. Three years ago she sustained a severe stroke of paralysis from which she never fully recovered, but remained nearly a helpless invalid until released by death. Befitting funeral services were conducted by Rev J McMillen, of Republic City.
Mrs Carpenter, an old lady well known in Washington township, died at the residence of Wm Stinson, a relative, the latter part of this week.
