Gabriel Boswell Carpenter was born in Lancaster County, Ohio, Feb. 26, 1844 and passed away at his home in Reynolds, Nebraska December 31, 1928, at the age of 84 years, 8 months and 5 days. When a child he moved with his parents to Iowa, where he grew to young manhood, and in 1864 enlisted in Company E., 46 Regiment of Iowa Infantry and served throughout the war. He returned to Iowa and on Jan. 1, 1873 was united in marriage with Eliza Klumph.
Shortly after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter moved to Kansas and homesteaded near Belleville. In 1893, Mr. Carpenter with his family moved to Nebraska and located west of Reynolds on Rose Creek. Around this location they made their home and reared a large family. For several years Mr. Carpenter has been in delicate health. He leaves his widow, seven children, Stace Carpenter, Thurman, Iowa; Mrs. Lula Cornforth, Miama, Arizona; Mrs. Stella Grissom, Fairbury, Nebr; Samuel T. Carpenter, Mrs. Kate Clark, Mrs. Anna Lowe, and Van Carpenter, all of Reynolds; 23 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Reynolds, Jan. 2nd with Elder Haughey, of Grand Island, Nebr., in charge, assisted by Rev. Dixon of Reynolds.
Burial was made in Rose Creek cemetery, with the American Legion of Hubbell, performing last military rites.
