Grant was raised and educated in Cornish, Utah, graduating from North Cache High School. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. He had been retired for the last 16 years after 37 years of working in maintenance for Monsanto.
Grant was a high priest in the Soda Springs LDS Third Ward, and had served in the bishopric, Sunday school presidency, high priest leadership, ward mission leader, temple worker and as a dance director.
Grant was well-known for his activity in baseball, coaching from Little League to American Legion baseball. He was also an umpire for the local clubs. He was a member of the Soda Springs Golf Club and the Soda Springs Archery Club.
Grant enjoyed all activities his family was involved with: Camping, hunting, fishing, golfing, pool, bowling, dancing, softball as well as all sports events. He and his wife, Faye, were homecoming grand marshals for Soda Springs High School.
He is survived by his wife, of Soda Springs; three sons and four daughters and their spouses, Alan and Cindy Erickson, Soda Springs, Kevin and Mary Sue Erickson, Fort Bridger, Wyo., Brent and Tracie Erickson, Soda Springs, Sheila and Skip Overby, West Jordan, Utah, Renee and Phil Garvin, Meridian, Idaho, Linda and Gary Todd, Kemmerer, Wyo., and Laurie Erickson, Idaho Falls, Idaho. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Nelva Alexander, Ruth Mastny, Leona Simpson and Maureen Ainscough. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, LeRoy Erickson, sisters, Verna Lou Erickson and Mary Dowdle, and a grandson, Justice Erickson.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Feb. 10, at noon at the Soda Springs LDS Stake Center, with Bishop Randy Hubbard officiating. Friends may call Thursday evening, Feb. 9, from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Sims Funeral Home and Friday at the stake center from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, with military honors.
