Ruth Erickson Mastny, 93, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, formerly of Akeley, died Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Gentiva Hospice Facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Ruth Erickson was born April 1, 1920 in Sandy, Utah the daughter of John Oliver and Mary Luella (Thompson) Erickson. She grew up, attended school and graduated from high school in 1938 in Utah.

She was united in marriage to Milo Otto Mastny Aug. 6, 1941 in Idaho City, Idaho. They resided in several west coast cities, while Milo was in the military. They moved back to Milo's home town, Akeley, in 1963 when Milo retired from the U.S. Air Force. Together they were farmers and raised sheep and beef cattle.

Ruth loved the outdoors and all of the animals on the farm. She was blessed to have many wonderful friends and neighbors who loved her and helped her remain in her home until she was 90. Thanks to all of you.

She was very active for many years in the Akeley United Methodist Church; and also a member of the Todd Neal American Legion Auxiliary Post 363 in Akeley.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and six siblings.

Graveside service: 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, at Akeley City Cemetery in Akeley. Pastor Duane Gebhard will be officiating.

A lunch reception will be held at Akeley Methodist Church following the services.
