Las Cruces, NM - Mel N. Lovin, 88, of Las Cruces, NM passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for and loved on February 20, 2021


Mel was predeceased by his wife of 43 yrs Linda C. (Cogdill) Lovin in 2005. He was also predeceased by his parents William C. and Geraldine (Cole) Lovin, his brother Glen Lovin, and sisters Jane Borthick, Joann McCarty, Norma Moberly and Ginger Stephens.


Mel was born in Ada, OK on July 30, 1932, the oldest of 13 children and lived in OK until his enlistment in the US Army, where he fought in the Korean War. After his military service, Mel chose a profession in law enforcement, beginning in El Paso County, TX as a deputy sheriff and ending in Ruidoso Downs, NM as Marshall. In between Mel served with several different agencies in various capacities in OK and NM, including NM Mounted Patrol. Mel then opened his own security companies, which he worked until January 3, 2021. Mel was dedicated to honesty and hard work. He strived to take care of his family and those that worked for him.


Mel is survived by his his brothers, Bill, Ted (Joy), and Tim (Teresa) Lovin, sisters Carolyn (Joe) Birth, Mary (George) Guinn, Jerry Dean Lovin and Helen Waller, all of OK; daughters, Lisa Agan and Susan Yarbrough and son Michael and wife Jana Lovin; his grandchildren, Heath (Brandi), Sheymarie (Joel), Kaytlin (Bobby), Haedyn, Dustin (Haley), Dyllan (Kelcie), Dalton (Frannie), Carli (Tim), Trendie, Cody (Kisa) and Jacob; his great-grandchildren Brecken-Rhys, Olivia, Braisen, Reagan, Kollynns, Skylar and Timberlee; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.


The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of Mesilla Valley Hospice and Good Samaritan. Their compassion, dedication and effort to provide quality care were a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him.


No services are scheduled. Cremation will take place at his request. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Cowboys for Cancer (c4cr.com) or Mesilla Valley Hospice.
