THE LIFE OF INEZ ROSETTA BELLE MASON

DEATH: Inez Rosetta Belle Mason died February 10, 1992 in the Frontier Nursing Home in Longview, Washington where she had been a resident since September 9, 1991.
Inez was born July 28, 1905 in Sparta, Oklahoma to Walter and Ada(Bowman) Buck. She was the third of four children, being the only daughter.
Her parents were from Smith Center, Kansas and had gone to Oklahoma to homestead. In the fall of 1907 Walter sold the homestead and moved his family along with three other families in "covered wagon" to a farm near Quincy, Missouri. In 1909 Inez's mother and her four children returned to Smith Center, Kansass by train, and Inez's father followed later by covered wagon with their belongings. In 1914 the family moved to Emmett, Idaho where Inez spent most of her youth.
In 1922 she married Clarence Wells and moved to Bend, Oregon where her daughter, Janice was born. Hearing about the new city of Longview, Washington and the new sawmills and the oppounty for employment, they decided to move to Longview, Wash in 1927.
Her marriage ended in divorce and later she met and married Harold "Hallie" Mason in 1932. Their daughter, Geraldine, was born in 1934. Geraldine, or Jerry as most people called her, became afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis when she was 20 years old. Inez took her from doctor to doctor trying to find help for her, but to no avail. She contiued to get worse. It was decided that perhaps a warmer drier climate might help her, so Inez and Jerry went to Phoenix, Airzona and eventually to Mesa, Arizona. Hallie would remain here in Longview,Wash working at Weyerhaeuser. Inez and Jerry traveled many times between Kelso and Arizona usually pulling a travel trailer, just the two of them and their dog. Inez and Hallie maintained a home in Kelso,Wash and in Arizona. Jerry met and married Stanley "Buddy" Miller and they wre blessed with a son, Stephen. Inez remained in Arizona to help with her daughter's care and help to care for her baby son. After Hallie's retirement, he joined Inez in Arizona and they enjoyed traveling, seeing the sights, and camping in beautiful camp grounds, until his death in 1979.
Inez was very active in "The Mesa Church" and made many long lasting friendships.
In 1988 her daughter, Jerry died and Inez was without any family in Mesa, as her son-in-law Buddy and grandson, Stephen had both moved to different cities in Arizona. It was becoming more and more difficult for her to be there alone, depending on friends for the help she needed, so her daughter, Janice, convinced her to come to Longview,Wash and live at Campus Towers Retirement Home where she could look after her and she would be close to family. So in October, 1989 she returned and moved into Campus Towers. She made many new friends there. Last September after having prevoiusly suffered a stroke in July, she moved to Frontier Nursing Home. Fortunately her granddaughter Linda works there and Inez would have 'family' on the premises.
Besides her husband, Hallie and her daughter, Jerry, she had two brothers precede her in death, Wilmer Buck of Emmett, Idaho and Earnest Buck of Pullman, Washington.
Inez is survived by her daughter, Janice Arocha of Kelso, Washington; brother, Ralph Buck of Kelso, Washington, and two half brothers, Roy Buck Newberg, Oregon, and Frankllin Buck, Donald, Oregon. She was blessed with three grandchildren, Linda Dixon, Longview, Washington, Gary Arocha, Sr., Tigard, Oregon, and Stephen Miller, Flagstaff, Arizona; 11 great grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her memory is deeply treasured by her family and all those who knew and loved her.
