Sylvia was born January 15, 1920 in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse N. and Maude D. (Tucker) Blake. She graduated from Muscatine High School in 1938. She was united in marriage to Herman H. Ahlf on June 11, 1938 in Davenport, Iowa.

Sylvia worked for McKee Button Company in her younger years and as a machine operator for Hon Industries for 18 years. She took great care of her home, family and her yard and flowers. Sylvia enjoyed bird watching and feeding the local squirrels. She created fond memories with her family at their cottage on the Mississippi River where they spent summers and weekends boating and fishing. Sylvia enjoyed wintering in Arizona with husband and continued to do so for many years after his death with the help of her daughter. Her secret to living a long life was to love your family, work hard, and enjoy a cold beer.

She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Margaret Stych of Muscatine; son, Charles (Marilyn) Ahlf of Muscatine; grandchildren: Laurie (Tim) Schroeder, Christine (Tom) Borich, Matt (Kelly) Irwin, Cara (Ray) Briggs, Justin (Alyssa) Ahlf and Angela (Paul) Hagens; twenty great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herman; son, Gene; son-in-law, Ron; grandson, Jonathan; sisters: Iona, Helen, Dorothy, Mildred, Cleda and Wilma; and brothers: Floyd, Calvin, Clifford, Kenneth and Jesse.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lutheran Homes for their exceptional care throughout the years.
