Edward A. Legate, a well known and respected farmer, residing one and a half miles from this village, died at nine o'clock this morning after a lingering illness. Deceased was born at Leydon, Mass., Feb 23, 1833. He has been a resident of this town for many years. In January 1893 he slipped and fell on a sled injuring his side. He has been in poor health since and it is believed tha this death is traceable to the accident. Mr. Legate was a veteran enlisting in 1863 in Company H, 20th NY Cavalry, and doing honorable service until the close of the war. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, George, William and Herbert, all respected young men of this place, and two daughters, Mrs. Thomas Anderson of the Brooklyn side and Mrs. James Scott of North Gouverneur.
