Thelma "Babe" Peters of Columbus, formerly of Bellwood, died Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Thursday, September 28 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Bellwood.

Visitation with family is from 5-7 pm Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with a 7:00 pm Vigil service to follow. Visitation continues Thursday morning from 9:30 am until service time at St. Peter's.

Interment is in St. Mary and Peter Cemetery in rural Bellwood.

Thelma was born May 5, 1937 in Silver Creek, NE to Lemuel and Etta (Smith) Brandenburgh.

The family moved to Ulysses, NE then on to a farm near Bellwood, and into Bellwood Township by 1948.

Thelma attended school in Bellwood with her last two years at David City Public School, graduating in 1955. After graduation she worked for Nielsen Chevrolet in Columbus.

On November 24, 1956 she married Don Peters. Don was then drafted in to the Army which took them to Missouri and Oklahoma. They were finally able to return to Bellwood in 1959 where they built their home.

Thelma went to work for BD Medical Systems, retiring after 35 years of service.

Thelma and Don remained in Bellwood until the end of 2022 when they moved to Columbus.

She is survived by:

Daughter Janet (Kenny) Kallenbach of Bellwood, NE
Daughter Susan Bartholomaus of Kingsley, IA
Son James (Kelley) Peters of Omaha, NE
5 Grandsons: Tony, Ryan, Blake, and Logan Bartholomaus and Jameson Peters
1 Granddaughter Kasey Peters
3 Great Grandchildren: David, Wyatt, and Sydney Bartholomaus
Sisters-in-law: Delores Brandenburgh, Lila Brandenburgh, Delores McCawley, Mary Margaret Zeller, and Rita Lopez
