On Friday, April 11, 2008, Mary Ethel Ziegler-Humbert, 99, went to be with her Lord and Savior after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born August 19, 1908, to the late John Milton Heaps and the late Mary Jane (Rohrbaugh) Heaps of Norrisville, Md.

Ethel was the wife of the late Robert D. Ziegler, Fawn Grove, for 41 years. After being a widow for a number of years, she met and was married to the late John A. Humbert for 11 years, and lived in Stewartstown.

She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She leaves three children to cherish her memory, son, Curtis R. Ziegler and wife, Janet of Stewartstown, son, John A. Ziegler and wife, Sharon of Pontiac, Ill., and daughter, Betty A. Handley of West Columbia, Texas. Ethel also leaves eight grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends. She was predeceased by three sisters, Idella Almoney of Whiteford, Md., and Belle Brown and Alberta Ruff, both of Fawn Grove; son-in-law, Robert A. Handley, Sr. of West Columbia, Texas; and grandson, James Harvey Handley, Friendswood, Texas.

Ethel was a member of the Evangelical Methodist Church of Darlington, Md., for 54 years and recently was a very active member of the Stewartstown Senior Center where she spent many joyful hours visiting, crafting, and playing games with her dear friends.

In her early years she worked at the Stewartstown Sewing Factory and later at the Fawn Grove Sewing Factory. During World War II she worked at Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Co., Baltimore, Md., as a "Rosie the Riveter". During her years as a widow, she was a fulltime caregiver for the elderly.
