Eliza Ethel Carter was the first wife of Joseph Iowa (Jody) Dixon.

Their children were:
Anna Laura Dixon Chastain (Memorial# 127837133)
Jewel Ethel Dixon (Memorial# 13158831)(Buried at Ochlocknee City Cemetery, Ochlocknee, Ga.)
Eriel Zadia (Eva) Dixon Smith (buried at Riverside Cemetery, North, S.C.)(Memorial# 48638858)
Joseph Turner Dixon, Charleston, SC, (Buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, Charleston, S.C.}
John Wesley Dixon ( Memorial# 139710074)(Buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, Charleston, S.C.)
Ardis Dixon (Memorial# 25961419) (Buried at Ochlocknee City Cemetery, Ochlocknee, Ga.)
Wallace Dixon (Memorial# 25961424) (Buried at Ochlocknee City Cemetery, Ochlocknee, Ga.)

Ethel contracted influenza in 1919 during the great flu epidemic of the first world war and almost died. Although she survived she never regained her health and remained weak and sickly for the remainder of her life. Her death certificate states cause of death as pneumonia.
Every one who knew Ethel always described her as being one of the most beautiful women in south Georgia and they always said that she had a great singing voice and that when she talked her voice was like music. People said that she did not like to have her photo taken and there are only three known photos of her (only one of those has been definitely verified as her photo)
